Waiheke Island
Our first adventure stop in New Zealand was Waiheke Island. After our circadian rhythm became acclimated in a couple days in Auckland, we took a short 45 minute ferry ride from the port to Waiheke. This island although small has a lot to offer. There’s a plethora of wineries which can keep you busy all week long. There’s also very good dining and amazing places to hike.
Man O’ War
What is so unique about this winery is the zip lining. After you see the amazing views while zip lining you are dropped off right into a glass of wine (not literally of course). The food was good and you get an ocean view while you eat which is lovely.
Th e Heke
This was definitely our favorite restaurant on the whole island. Truly everything is amazing, pizza, cocktails, fried chicken, and burgers, you can’t go wrong! There is a dj some nights and it has such a cool vibe. We loved it!
Mudbrick
This winery was beautifully done, they have two restaurants on the property and even a small hotel. We decided to do the 7-course tasting menu which did not disappoint. I love a long boozy lunch where you just enjoy your company, eat and drink.
Oyster Inn
We also enjoyed this restaurant on the island. It’s a cute beachside bistro with really good food.
Hiking
There are hiking paths all along the island that are stunning. We did a couple that were really incredible. I do recommend bringing hiking shoes, pants and a water bottle since some are long. During one of our hikes a resident got their wine dropped off via helicopter.
